Investigator Sergeant Jack Burns is all of a sudden killed and till now the police don't have the foggiest idea about the culprit. In any case, they associated with one individual, librarian Aurora Roe Teagarden who had a few clashes with Jack previously. Amid the case, Roe discovers that there is a major plot behind the murder and she needs to know the executioner before it's past the point of no return.
