There was something strange that appeared in the new house where the couple moved. The couple discovered that this amazing thing is a formidable creature of demons, the half-brother of the man, who is also the former lover of the woman. This creature hides on the top floor after it has lost its ground body and turned into three demons of S & M, Cenobites. He seems to have come back to life by a drop of blood on the ground. The life of the couple begins to collapse when the ugly creature tries to force his former mistress to sacrifice his human sacrifices to complete his body in a savage way.

For all that it is an incredible, and incredibly disturbing, film to look at, Hellraiser doesn't entirely click as a narrative.January 01, 2000
This is a movie without wit, style or reason, and the true horror is that actors were made to portray, and technicians to realize, its bankruptcy of imagination.January 01, 2000
It's a dark, frequently disturbing and occasionally terrifying film that suggests Barker's vision hasn't quite made the conversion from paper to celluloid.January 11, 2008
Minor grisly fun, but don't expect the movie to linger when it's over.April 09, 2017
"This isnt for your eyes", says the demonic Cenobite - but he is so very wrong about Clive Barker's must-see horror.February 12, 2010
Clive Barker's virtuosic De Sadean satireApril 20, 2009
Barker's vision cribs equally from the mythos of vampires and zombies, but Hellraiser's overriding ridiculousness (and nagging budgetary shortcomings) can't disguise the fact that the movie is at least unwittingly a product of the AIDS crisis.August 15, 2010
Sharp grim direction and tight writing from Clive Barker who turns his story of a puzzle box invoking the forces of hell in to an experience rather than doing the work for us...February 01, 2011
Gore-torture-horror-ghoul fantasy from the '80s.November 25, 2007
...an entertaining and downright creepy piece of work...February 09, 2006
[Writer/Director Clive] Barker's dazzling debut as a director creates such an atmosphere of dread that the astonishing visual set pieces simply detonate in a chain reaction of cumulative intensity.April 06, 2017
Not only did it revolutionise horror and force mainstream critics to accept that it could ... have real artistic weight, it captured a moment in time when social and sexual mores were shifting in a fascinating way.
