Suffering with terminal cancer, Rex, a taxi driver in Broken Hill, has been given three months to live. Not wishing to die in hospital, he sets out on an epic journey to Darwin in a bid to die on his own terms. Along the way, he experiences various encounters which encourage him to re-evaluate his life.
