Although there are more perfect events, there is only a 4 year old boy struggling to cope with the arrival of a small sister in the family. It seems that the boy is trying to make things go well in that house. The boy's adventures begin with his mother and his sister where the mysterious garden in the backyard of the gate boy's house becomes allowed to return the child in time. His mother still faces the fantasy adventures of the little boy.

Beautiful [animation] work that stands out on its own, and worthy of an Oscar nomination. When surrounded by everything else, however, it becomes an exception to an otherwise disappointing whole.

Mirai is by no means a perfect film, but it may yet be Hosoda's best to date.
