Youthful poet Paul Verlaine (David Thewlis) drinks absinthe and neglects his devoted wife, Mathilde (Romane Bohringer). When young, wild poet Arthur Rimbaud enters their lives, he alienates the couple even further by engaging in a fierce, forbidden romance with Paul.
