There was a vampire race on a Caribbean island and the only person who survived that race was Maximilian. Maximilian was sucked in professional blood but his end seemed imminent. Max decided to look for another mate to share before he was finished. Max realized that there was a child who had been born to a woman with a vampire father and was still looking for her in Brooklyn, now a grown-up girl named Rita. Max tries to be courted by Rita and tries to bring her a bloody fate, but Rita may have strange dreams and actions. But there is a person who may have feelings of Rita's direction, named Gentus, but Rita alone decides.

Never funny enough to pass muster as a comedy and never scary enough (if at all) to make it as a horror movie.
January 01, 2000
Murphy's pale efforts are enough to make one fondly recall Blacula. Now that was one sucker who knew how to make a film that didn't.
January 01, 2000
Doesn't live up to its promise or premise.
June 18, 2002
Vampire in Brooklyn is neither funny nor frightening and comes up a tedious middle-road hybrid from veteran scaremeister Wes Craven, who directed.
January 01, 2000
To call this a comedy is a sign of optimism; to call it a comeback for Murphy is a sign of blind faith.

Is it comedy? Is it horror? Uneven film that never lives up to its potential as either.
June 05, 2002
Essentially little more than a romantic triangle with a 'good versus evil' twist, it's not a bad film, but it is also neither winningly funny enough to exploit Murphy's talents nor bitingly scary enough to exploit Craven's.
February 12, 2003
Oh, Wes, what did we all do to deserve this?
December 11, 2003
Given the talent involved, it's almost impressive how much of a misfire the film is.
May 14, 2002
The horror relies on special effects so obvious that the scares are compromised.
April 12, 2002
Neither as good as it might be nor as bad as you might expect.
January 01, 2000
Craven can't keep the comic elements in balance with the horror, and as a result there's no tension or dramatic pull.
