EPISODE
When it comes to motherhood, everything seems to be beautiful, but it may be quite different from the series that tells of events that are at odds. The series begins with Gypsy Blanchard, a girl who is still badly associated with her mother. Blanchard is always trying to escape the poisonous relationship she has with her abusive mother, as the reality seems to be painful between both.

The series is so cleverly layered and edited that there are a few moments when one could be tempted to feel sorry for this terrible mother.

It's as weird as any David Lynch drama, only true, and Arquette disappears into her role with absolute conviction.

Even with some lags in pacing, each time I thought the story was running out of juice, it found a different gear and a different genre, all anchored by King and Arquette.

I don't know quite how to feel about The Act, about the discomfort of seeing childhood abuse dressed up on screen, even if I know it's not for gawking, even if I recognize the pull the Blanchard story has on me anyway. Perhaps that is the point.

In large part, the success of The Act so far comes down to one person: Joey King.

Arquette's performance is one for the mother-as-monster chronicles.

The Act remains oddly fascinating, perhaps especially so as the strange, sad relationship between the needy Gypsy and disturbed Nick (Calum Worthy) develops.
