The biggest problem with "Subject 9" isn't its lack of sense, though. It's the lack of sense without any humor or other redeeming qualities to make it tolerable.

Thankfully, the episode... had the subplot tying back into the main plot. It progressed the season-long arc.

This season has struggled with how, exactly to use Ralph Dibney, and this was the first episode that felt like a real success on that front.
